Abstract: According to the physiological and biochemical indices in the low temperature stress process, the cold resistance of 5Israeli soft-seeded pomegranate cultivars was comprehensively evaluated to offer a reference for the introduction and cultivation of those fruit trees in the north regions of China. Annual shoots of 8 Tunisian and Israeli soft-seeded pomegranate cultivars were used as the experimental materials to observe the effect of low temperature stress on the young sprout, relative conductivity, superoxide dismutase( SOD) activity and the content of proline, soluble protein, soluble sugar, malondialdehyde( MDA) under the low temperature stress( 4,0,-5,-10 and-15 ℃) were measured, and cold resistance was comprehensively evaluated by principal components analysis and membership function. Along with the temperature decreasing, the relative conductivity in the shoots of 8soft-seeded pomegranate cultivars changed in an S-curve,and the content of soluble protein, proline, soluble sugar, and SOD activity tended to increase, followed by decreasing, but the content of malondialdehyde decreased at the beginning and then increased. The cold resistance of 8 soft-seeded pomegranate cultivars was as follows: ‘Yudazi ’ > ‘Israel 3 ’ > ‘Tunisia ’ >‘Israel 2’>‘Israel 1’>‘Zhongnonghong’>‘Israel M’>‘Israel Y’.
