Abstract: After Lushan earthquake,a joint expert group was established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban- rural development of China and China Earthquake Administration. The expert group carried out emergency assessment of the important public buildings and some residence in Ya’an City. A statistical analysis of seismic damage of 574 buildings in Lushan earthquake was made. The seismic damage characteristics of brick- wood structures, masonry structures and frame structures were summarized and analyzed. The damage ratio of buildings constructed in different ages, the damage ratios of all kinds of structures under different intensities, and the damage ratios of primary and high school buildings were obtained. Analysis shows that: seismic performance of the buildings with seismic design is obviously better than that of buildings without seismic design. The seismic performance of reinforced concrete frame structures is better than that of masonry structures and the performance of the latter is better than that of brick and wood structures. The seismic performance of primary and high school buildings is better than that of average level of performance. The old buildings in rural areas are seismic weak links. The base isolated building displays good seismic performance in this earthquake.
