Abstract: During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Huizhou exceeded other regions in its number of Jinshi, which was an outstanding cultural feature of Huizhou . The big number of Jinshi from Huizhou was unbalanced in terms of regional distribution in Huizhou. And those Jinshi were mainly from only a few local leading families with superior tradition in culture and education , as well as solid economical power, which enabled their younger generations to be more competitive in the imperial examination.
