The Eastern Miscellany
The Eastern Miscellany, founded by the Commercial Press, is a significant publication in Chinese journal history. Established in March 1904 during the late Qing Dynasty, it continued until December 1948, spanning 44 volumes and 819 issues. It was one of the top ten rare books during the Republic of China, documenting historical changes with articles by prominent intellectuals like Liang Qichao, Cai Yuanpei, Yan Fu, Lu Xun, and Chen Duxiu. With chief editors like Du Yaquan and Hu Yuzhi, it recorded major political, economic, and cultural events monthly. It is an indispensable resource for studying the history of the Republic of China.
