Abstract: Based on the panel data of commercial banks from 1999 to 2012,this paper investigates the degree of competition in China’s bank loan market using Boone indicator. Results show that;the average Boone indicator is—0.433,indicating the market is not highly competitive;although the market concentration rate is declining, the degree of competition drops significantly after 2009;the main reason is the state-owned banks, which are less efficient, have granted more loans due to the "four trillion investment stimulus plans".Therefore the banking administrators should reduce interventions towards commercial banks’ lending decisions and promote substantial competition in the bank loan market.
