Abstract: Photonic crystal is a spatially periodic structure fabricated from materials having different dielectric constants.It provides a convenient and powerful tool to confine, control, and manipulate photons in special dimension of space.Photonic crystals with several different structures have been prepared at present. In this paper the methods for the preparation of opal and inverse opal photonic crystals and effects on its photonic band gap are reviewed briefly.
