Effect of Group Guidance on Internet Addiction Disorder among University StudentsChinese Full Text

Abstract: Objective:To explore effect of group guidance on Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD) in university students.Methods:71 University students of Soochow University were collected and assigned to experiment group(n=36) and control group(n=35) randomly.The experiment group received group guidance of 24 hours and 8 group meetings.Young’s Internet Addiction Test(IAT),Emotion Regulation Test,Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(SAD),Index of Well-Being and Emotional versus Social Loneliness Scales were administrated to all the 71 students before and after the group guidance to evaluate the effect.There was also a self-made evaluation form administrated to the experiment group to evaluate the effect of group guidance after the group guidance.Results:Before the group guidance,the experiment group and control group had no significant differences in all the Scales(P>0.05).After the group guidance,the experiment group showed a significant decrease in score of IAT and had a significant improvement in emotion regulation,social communication,feeling of well-being and emotional status.Conclusion:The group guidance shows an effective way in decreasing the internet addiction disorder and social anxiety and improving emotion regulation ability in university students.
